Yeast Infection Causes

For women, yeast infections are second most common type of vaginal infection.  As a result, it is very necessary for a woman to understand yeast infection causes.  The reality is that there are many different yeast infection causes.   

First of all, when discussing yeast infection causes, you need to understand that a healthy vagina does contain at least some yeast.  The most common type of yeast found in a healthy vagina is called Candida Albicans.  As an aside, his type of yeast can be found in small amounts in the rectum and the mouth of a healthy person.

Physiological Problems:  Yeast infections can arise from a whole host of different physiological that impact a woman’s reproductive system, including injuries, disease and illness.   

Pregnancy:  Another of the yeast infection causes is pregnancy.  A woman can find herself at higher risk for a vaginal yeast infection when pregnant.  Both hormonal changes and physiological adjustments can be factors in increasing the likelihood that a woman will face a vaginal yeast infection when pregnant. 

Use of Oral Contraceptives:  The use of oral contraceptives is one of the yeast infection causes.  Oral contraceptives effect hormone levels in a woman’s body which can lead to a yeast infection in some instances. 

Use of Certain Lubricants:  The use of sexual lubricants that contain glycerine have been demonstrated to be one of the yeast infection causes. 

Use of Certain Antibiotics:  While many people associate antibiotics with fighting infections, some antibiotics can cause yeast infections in some female patients. 

Engaging in Vaginal Sex After Anal Sex:  Yeast infections can readily occur when a woman engages in vaginal sex following anal sex without a proper cleansing of her partner’s penis in advance of vaginal penetration. 

Transmission from a Sexual Partner:  While not an STD per se, one of the yeast infection causes is infection through sex.  Low levels of yeast can be found in a man’s penis. 

Diet:  Some medical experts maintain that diet can also enhance the risk of a vaginal yeast infection.
