Not long ago … actually, while I was on a vacation holiday at the beach … I started to experience a burning sensation in my vagina. The fact was that it was not particularly acute and it really did not bother me that much. About a day later, I started to experience what looked like a thick, milky white discharge from my vagina. Obviously, I became concerned.

What I did not know at the time was that I was experiencing some of the symptoms associated with Candida infection. (In some quarters, a Candida infection is also known as a yeast infection, more often than not associated with the vagina.) A quick visit to a local medical center led to a quick diagnosis of my problem: Vaginal Candida infection. What I was soon to learn was that Candida infection is the second most common type of vaginal infection experienced by women around the world today.

I was also relieved to be told that a Candida infection normally responds very quickly to one of several different types of treatment regimens. Generally speaking, there are three primary types of treatment regimens available to a women like me who was suffering from a Candida infection:

l anti-fungal creams

l anti-fungal suppositories

l anti-fungal tablets Overall, the selection of a particular course of treatment for a Candida infection rests more with a woman’s preference than anything else. Each of these particular course of Candida infection treatment normally will product noticeable relief within about three days. The entire Candida infection should clear nearly entirely within about a week. I also learned that there were many causes of a Candida infection. Basically, a Candida infection will occur in a vagina when there becomes a bacterial imbalance. In other words, a healthy vagina contains both good and bad bacteria. When this is knocked out of balance, bad bacteria and fungi can begin to grow unchecked, leading to conditions like a Candida infection. Everything from a hormonal imbalance to wearing damp clothing after exercise (or a swimsuit after a dip in the ocean, as was my case) can result in an increase in the presence of Candida in the vagina and ultimately a Candida infection. The doctor who treated me also advised that if the Candida infection did not resolve within about a week, or if a Candida infection recurred in a two month period of time, I needed to see a doctor.
